Bassetlaw putting its Fairtrade footprint on the UK map
On Saturday 9th October four members of the Fairtrade for Bassetlaw Steering Group attended the Fairtrade Supports Conference at Kings College London, hosted by The Fairtrade Foundation, to put Bassetlaw on the Fairtrade map and to show that the people and the Council of Bassetlaw have, in a short time, got behind the Fairtrade Movement.

Press release for Bassetlaw Papers and media to promote year of being Fairtrade Zone and celebration planned for October 2nd 2010.
Fairtrade for Bassetlaw has double cause for celebration in 2010! A year ago in September 2009 the steering group for Fairtrade for Bassetlaw, Bassetlaw District council and many shops, cafés, schools, churches, workplaces and community group celebrated across the district as Bassetlaw achieved Fairtrade Zone status.

Raising the profile of Fairtrade in Retford
The Retford Action Centre is doing a double act for Fairtrade in Bassetlaw. Not only do they provide cups of Fairtrade tea and coffee for their staff at the centre, they also make sure all the tea, coffee and sugar for the morning break and lunches at the Retford Resource centre every Thursday for the over 50’s is also Fairtrade.

Fairtrade at Worksop Station
Have you ever been caught on a frosty December morning on a cold, wet and windy platform waiting for a delayed train?  Not in Worksop, you haven’t! … Because tucked away on platform 2 is a small cosy café that provides quality Fairtrade tea and coffee along with the obligatory ‘full English’ and hot bacon rolls.

Fairtrade for Bassetlaw Welcomes Fairtrade Kit Kats!

Fairtrade for Bassetlaw welcomes the news that, from early next year, Nestlé will be switch to use Fairtrade chocolate for its four finger Kit Kats.  The chocolate is being source from cocoa growers in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and is the second big chocolate brand to go Fairtrade following Cadbury’s Dairy Milk bars earlier in the year

Bassetlaw granted Fairtrade status.
We have just (17.10.10) received confirmation that Bassetlaw is to be granted Fairtrade Zone Status.
To become a ‘Fairtrade Zone’ it has been necessary to demonstrate an existing level of support for the concept of ‘Fairtrade’, principally among the retail outlets in our district and also within the catering establishments.

‘EXCELLENT PROGRESS’  -  We have met our Target for Catering Establishments!

The steering committee for the promotion of ‘Fairtrade for Bassetlaw’ met on Wednesday 3rd of December at the Tuxford Methodist Church. Our progress towards meeting our goals for being accepted as a ‘Fairtrade’ District was reported to the meeting.
