Meet the Group

Who are we?

We are a group of Bassetlaw residents that came together in September 2008 to campaign on the injustices in the international market. We believe that trade could have an enormous positive impact on development in the Third World if it were used to benefit those most in need. By campaigning for Fairtrade we are taking responsibility for our shopping habits so that the producers down the line are treated fairly and can improve their lives. In our first year, we managed to achieve Fairtrade Zone Status for Bassetlaw, the first District Council Area in Nottinghamshire to achieve this which show that there are already many people & organisations in our area that support the aims of Fairtrade. It is our aim to convince even more that by supporting Fairtrade they can help producers around the world

Our Organisation

To help focus our activities we have two groups that meet regularly.
The main one is the Steering Group. This meets regularly, every 6 to 8 weeks, and is made up of all the Office holders of the Group. The meetings, which are always open for anyone else to attend, are listed on the calender on the Events page. Minutes of past meetings are posted on our Google Documents pages under SG Minutes. Agendas of upcoming meeting are also found there.
The second group is our Executive Committee which is made up of our Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer & Secretary. This meets monthly and other members of the group are invited to attend when there are agenda items that their role relates to. The minutes of the meeting are also available under EC Minutes.

Most of our work is done outside of meetings and attendance at any meeting is not compulsory. So if you want to help check shops or cafes, help out manning a stall at bigger event or just help bake Fairtrade cakes, your help will be greatly appreciated.
